Torrevieja is a sizeable coastal town of around 82,600 people in the Provincia de Alicante. It sits just 14 metres above sea level, with its beaches and museums packed close to the centre. Within a mile of the middle you will find the Museo del Mar y de la Sal, a 1972 Daphné-class submarine called the Delfín, and town beaches such as Playa del Cura and Playa de Los Naufragos. Winters are mild, with January highs around 18°C, and summers reach 31°C. Alicante and Murcia airports, both with direct flights from the United Kingdom, are each well under an hour's drive away. That makes Torrevieja an easy choice for a family beach holiday or a short break.

Where to stay in Torrevieja

Choosing Your Base in Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a large town rather than a village, so the centre is where most of the activity is. Staying close to the middle puts both museums and the beaches at Playa del Cura and Playa de Los Naufragos within a short walk, which helps if you are travelling with children and want to skip the car.

If you would rather be a little further from the centre, look along the coast towards Playa del Acequión, Cala de la Higuera or Playa Cesped La Veleta, all within about 2 miles. This page shows live hotel prices, so you can compare locations for your dates.

Hire a car

The easiest way to reach Torrevieja and the villages around it is a hire car from Alicante (ALC), about 31 min away.

Practical Notes Before You Go

July and August highs of 31°C, with warm nights, mean that town walks and museum visits are best done early or late in the day, especially with children.

If you are travelling in May or September, pack a light waterproof. These are the town's wettest months, with around nine rainy days each.

With more than 80,000 residents, Torrevieja is a working town all year round rather than a summer-only resort. That is reassuring if you are coming in March, November or the depths of winter.
