Where to stay in Torrevieja: areas, beaches and hotels

Resort · Costa Blanca · Spain

Working out where to stay in Torrevieja is mostly a question of which stretch of this coastal town of around 83,000 people suits your holiday. Torrevieja sits on the southern Costa Blanca, a 31-minute drive from Alicante airport and 38 minutes from Murcia, both with direct flights from the UK. The centre keeps the Museo del Mar y de la Sal and the Delfín submarine close at hand, while Playa del Cura and Playa de Los Naufragos lie about half a mile away. Below, I set out the bases, what to look for in a room and how to time your booking, with live hotel prices to compare on this page.

Choosing your base in town

Torrevieja is one large coastal town rather than a string of separate resorts, so the choice is about which part of it you wake up in. Staying close to the centre puts the Museo del Mar y de la Sal on your doorstep and the Delfín, a 1972 Daphné-class submarine you can visit, about half a mile away. It suits travellers who want to walk to everything and treat the beach as a short stroll rather than the whole day.

If the sea is the priority, look at rooms near Playa del Cura or Playa de Los Naufragos, both around half a mile from the centre, or a little further out towards Playa del Acequión at just over a mile. For quieter water, Playa Cesped La Veleta and the small Cala de la Higuera are about 2 miles away, which suits those happy to trade a longer walk into town for a calmer patch of coast.

What kind of stay to look for

Because Torrevieja is a working town of more than 80,000 residents as well as a holiday base, the sensible approach is to choose by location and practicalities rather than by label. A central room favours those who want the museums, the seafront and evenings out within walking distance; a room nearer the beaches suits families and sun-seekers who will spend most of the day on the sand.

In July and August, when daytime highs reach 31°C and nights stay around 23 to 24°C, air conditioning and some shade by a pool matter more than usual. For a spring or autumn stay, when highs sit between 21 and 26°C, being near the beach is less of a priority and a central base works well. The hotel listings on this page show what is available for your dates, so you can compare locations side by side.
