Torrevieja Spain weather: a month-by-month climate guide

Resort · Costa Blanca · Spain

Torrevieja Spain weather follows a clear Costa Blanca rhythm: long, dry and hot summers, mild winters, and two short wetter spells in May and September. Daytime highs climb from around 17°C in February to 31°C in July and August, while even the coolest months rarely bring more than four rainy days. That makes this coastal town of Playa del Cura, the Delfín submarine and the Museo del Mar y de la Sal a realistic choice for a winter break as well as a summer fortnight. Alicante airport is about 31 minutes away by road and Murcia about 38, both with direct flights from the UK, so the weather, rather than the journey, is usually what decides when to go.

The coolest stretch runs from December to February, when highs sit between 17°C and 18°C and nights drop to about 9°C. Rain is scarce: most months see between two and four wet days and very little total rainfall.

The exceptions are May, the wettest month on average with 68mm spread over about nine days, and September, with around 51mm and nine wet days. October can also bring a few heavier showers, averaging 45mm over five days. The best months for settled weather are March, April, June, July, August, October and November, while January, February, May, September and December count as shoulder months.

The page shows a live forecast above this guide, so if you came looking for a weather forecast in Torrevieja, Spain, for the next 15 days, check that first and use the monthly pattern below to plan further ahead.

Month by month through the year

January and February are mild and quiet, with highs of 18°C and 17°C, lows of 9°C and between two and four wet days. March warms noticeably to 21°C, and April reaches 22°C with only around three rainy days, which makes spring one of the most comfortable times for sightseeing, a visit to the Museo del Mar y de la Sal or a stroll past the Delfín submarine in the port.

May brings 24°C highs but also the year's heaviest rainfall, so pack for the odd wet afternoon. June steps up to 27°C with nights of 20°C, and July and August are the peak beach months at 31°C, with July almost completely dry at just 4mm of rain. September stays hot at 28°C but turns showery again, with around nine wet days.

October is still warm at 26°C, and November, at 22°C with only three wet days, is one of the best-value months for a late-autumn escape. December closes the year at 18°C, with nights around 9°C and roughly two rainy days. School-holiday weeks in summer tend to cost more for packages from the UK, so spring and autumn can be worth comparing with the package, hotel and car hire buttons on this page.

What to pack by season

For July and August, think light cotton, a sun hat, high-factor sun cream and something to cover up in the midday heat; with highs of 31°C and nights around 23°C to 24°C, you will rarely need more than a thin layer after dark. June and early September are similar, though a compact umbrella earns its place in September.

In spring and autumn, from March to May and October to November, pack for warm days in the low to mid 20s and cooler evenings, with a light jacket or jumper and a waterproof for May and October showers. From December to February, daytime highs of 17°C to 18°C feel pleasant in the sun, but nights fall to around 9°C, so bring a warmer jacket, long trousers and closed shoes for evenings out.

What to pack for Torrevieja in October

  • T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 26°C by day and 17°C at night.
