Majorca Spain weather: month by month guide to Mallorca

Island · Balearic Islands · Spain

Majorca Spain weather follows a clear Mediterranean rhythm, and knowing it makes choosing your week far easier. The figures here come from the Palma weather station: mild winters with daytime highs of 15°C in January, a steady warm-up through spring, and a hot, almost dry July and August, when highs reach 32°C and only two days of rain are typical in July. Autumn is warm but noticeably wetter, with September the rainiest month of the year. For most British travellers, May and June are the sweet spot, warm without the peak heat, while the long shoulder season from September to April suits walkers, sightseers and anyone happy to trade beach hours for quieter resorts.

The climate at a glance

Mallorca's year splits neatly in two. From June to August the island is hot and dry: June brings highs of 29°C, and July and August both average 32°C by day and 23°C at night, with rainfall dropping to just 7mm in July. This is classic beach weather for Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponsa, Alcúdia and Cala Millor, and it is also when school-holiday demand pushes package prices up, so it pays to compare deals early.

The cooler half of the year is mild rather than cold. January, the coolest month, still averages 15°C by day and 8°C at night, and December holds at 17°C. Rain is spread fairly evenly through winter at around six wet days a month, so most days stay usable for exploring Palma or the Sóller valley.

The months to watch are September to November. Temperatures remain pleasant, but these are the wettest months on the table, with September recording 68mm across ten rainy days. Showers tend to be the price of a warm autumn break rather than a reason to avoid it.

What each month brings

January and February sit at 15°C to 16°C by day with about six rainy days each, while March warms to 17°C but is slightly more changeable, with eight wet days. The Mallorca weather in April is a genuine turning point: highs reach 20°C, nights 12°C, and seven rainy days bring 51mm, the wettest spring month. Anyone searching for the Mallorca temperature in April should plan for warm afternoons and cool evenings rather than reliable sunbathing.

May is one of the two best months, at 24°C with 40mm of rain, and June follows at 29°C with just five wet days. July and August are the hottest and driest stretch of the year, both reaching 32°C. September stays warm at 28°C but turns into the wettest month, with ten rainy days.

The temperature in Majorca in October is still a comfortable 24°C by day and 17°C at night, much like May, though with more rain: 64mm over nine days. November cools to 19°C with nine wet days, and December settles at 17°C with only 27mm, one of the drier winter months. On a showery day, the caves at Coves del Drach and Coves dels Hams near Porto Cristo make a sensible plan B.

What to pack by season

For June to August, pack light cotton or linen, swimwear, a sun hat and plenty of high-factor sun cream. Nights stay above 20°C, so you rarely need more than a thin layer after dark, though a cover-up helps for evenings in Palma or visits to churches.

In spring and autumn, think layers. April weather in Majorca can swing from T-shirt afternoons at 20°C to cool 12°C evenings, so bring a light jumper and a packable rain jacket. The same applies from September to November, when rainy days are most frequent; a waterproof and shoes that cope with wet pavements are worth the suitcase space, especially if you plan to walk out to the Far de Formentor or around Pollentia in Alcúdia.

From December to March, a warm jumper, a proper jacket and closed shoes cover most days, with daytime highs of 15°C to 17°C and nights dropping to around 8°C to 10°C. Sunglasses still earn their place: winter days can be bright even when they are cool.

Reading the figures across the island

All the numbers on this page come from the Palma climate station, close to the airport and the south-west resorts of Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa, which are only 15 to 20 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport by road. They give a reliable picture of the island's seasons, but they are measured in one place.

Resorts further away, such as Alcúdia, Port de Pollença and Can Picafort in the north, Cala Millor and Porto Cristo on the east coast, or Sóller in the mountains, have no separate readings in our data. Treat the Palma table as your guide to the overall pattern, and check the live forecast above before you travel for day-to-day detail.

What to pack for Mallorca in October

  • T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 24°C by day and 17°C at night.
  • A light rain jacket: about 9 rainy days in October.
