Last Minute Holidays to Majorca: Mallorca Late Deals Guide

Island · Balearic Islands · Spain

Last minute holidays to Majorca work best when you treat the island as a whole rather than fixing on one hotel. Palma de Mallorca airport has direct flights from the United Kingdom, and the closest resorts, Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa, sit between 15 and 20 minutes away by road. Further round the coast you have Alcúdia and Puerto Pollensa in the north and Cala Millor and Cala d'Or in the east. May and June are the island's best months, so spare rooms tend to appear on either side of them, and outside the school holidays. This page explains how late package stock works on Mallorca, when to look, and where to compare it.

How late deals actually work

Most last minute deals to Majorca are package holidays that tour operators still need to fill: a seat on a flight into Palma, a room in a resort hotel and the transfer between the two, sold together for a departure a few weeks or even days away. As the departure date approaches, unsold stock is released, and that is where late holiday deals to Majorca come from.

The more flexible you are, the more you will see. If you can fly from more than one UK airport and are happy with Santa Ponsa instead of Palmanova, or Can Picafort instead of Alcúdia, your choice widens considerably. Check the board basis carefully, as self-catering, half board and all inclusive can vary from one late offer to the next, and remember that the resorts nearest the airport have the shortest transfers.

Last minute hotels in Majorca are also worth a look if you have already sorted flights. You can check hotel prices on this page alongside the package offers and decide which combination suits you.

When spare rooms are most likely

May and June are Mallorca's best months, with Palma averaging 24°C in May and 29°C in June and few rainy days, so demand is high and late availability thinner. July and August are hotter still, at around 32°C, and coincide with the UK school summer holidays, when last minute options are usually at their scarcest.

The shoulder months are where late holidays to Majorca tend to turn up. September keeps much of the summer warmth at around 28°C, though it is also Palma's wettest month on average with ten rain days. October sits around 24°C, April around 20°C, and from November to March the island is mild rather than hot, with highs of 15°C to 19°C, which suits walking, sightseeing and city breaks in Palma more than beach days. Avoiding UK half-terms and Easter generally improves your chances of finding something at short notice.

Getting there from the UK

Palma de Mallorca airport is the island's gateway and has direct flights from the United Kingdom. Transfers to the south-west resorts are short: about 15 minutes to Palmanova, 16 to Magaluf, 18 to Calvià and 20 to Santa Ponsa. Resorts in the north and east, such as Alcúdia, Puerto Pollensa, Cala Millor and Cala d'Or, lie further from the airport, so expect a longer coach transfer if a late offer lands you there.

Mallorca also has ferry ports at Palma and Alcúdia, which is useful if you fancy a hop to neighbouring Menorca, whose port of Ciutadella is the closest across the water.

Questions people ask

When is the best time to find last minute deals to Mallorca?

Late availability is most likely outside May and June, the island's best months, and away from UK school holidays. September, October and April are good bets, with average highs in Palma of around 28°C, 24°C and 20°C respectively.

Which resorts are quickest to reach from Palma airport?

Palmanova is about 15 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport, Magaluf about 16, Calvià about 18 and Santa Ponsa about 20. Resorts in the north and east, such as Alcúdia or Cala Millor, involve a longer transfer.

What is the best place to go in Majorca on a late booking?

It depends on what you want. Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa keep transfers short, Alcúdia and Puerto Pollensa suit the north with sights such as Pollentia, and Cala Millor and Porto Cristo give easy access to the east coast caves.

Are there good beaches near the east coast resorts?

Yes. Cala Mendia beach lies near Porto Cristo, and the protected headland of Punta de n'Amer sits beside Cala Millor. The Coves del Drach and Coves dels Hams cave systems are also close to Porto Cristo for a day away from the sand.

Can I book a last minute hotel in Majorca without a package?

Yes. If you already have flights, you can check hotel prices on this page and compare car hire separately, which gives you more freedom to choose a resort such as Sóller, Alcúdia or Santa Ponsa.
