Majorca Holidays: Mallorca Packages Resort by Resort
Island · Balearic Islands · Spain
Majorca holidays from the UK are simple to arrange because everything runs through a single airport, Palma de Mallorca, with direct flights from Britain. From there the south-west resorts are remarkably close: Palmanova is about 15 minutes away, Magaluf 16 and Santa Ponsa 20. Further round the island you reach Alcúdia and Port de Pollença in the north, Cala Millor and Porto Cristo on the east coast, and Sóller in the mountains to the west. On this page I set out which resort suits which kind of traveller, when the weather is at its best, and how a package works, so you can compare live deals and book with confidence.

Who the island suits
Families do well here. Palmanova has Marineland Mallorca on its doorstep and sits a short transfer from the airport, which matters when you are travelling with tired children. Over on the east coast, Porto Cristo is home to two cave systems, the Coves del Drach and the Coves dels Hams, plus the beach at Cala Mendia, so a mallorca family holiday can easily mix sand with something different.
Couples and travellers after a quieter pace tend to look north and west. Sóller has its botanical garden and the Can Prunera museum, while Port de Pollença is the base for the drive out to the Far de Formentor lighthouse. History lovers will find the Roman site of Pollentia at Alcúdia, and the Son Real necropolis and Dolmen de Son Bauló de Dalt near Can Picafort.
Which resort to choose
The south-west cluster of Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponsa and the wider Calvià area is the most convenient for short transfers and suits majorca breaks of just a few nights. Santa Ponsa also has the archaeological site of Puig de Sa Morisca, and Palmanova the Castle of Bendinat. Palma itself, the capital, is the most searched place on the island and works as a city stop alongside a beach stay.
For north majorca holidays, Alcúdia is the largest resort town and its old walled quarter, l'Alcúdia, is the island's best-known village sight; Port de Pollença and Can Picafort complete the north coast choices. On the east, Cala Millor sits beside the protected headland of Punta de n'Amer, with Cala d'Or and Cala Ratjada further along. If you are weighing up majorca family holidays, Palmanova, Alcúdia and Cala Millor give you the widest spread of nearby activities.

Getting to Mallorca from United Kingdom
Palma de Mallorca (PMI) has direct flights from the UK, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, London Luton and Manchester.

When to go and book
May and June are the sweet spot. Palma averages 24°C in May and 29°C in June, with only five rain days in June. July and August climb to 32°C and are the driest months, with just two rain days in July, but they coincide with the English school holidays, when package prices generally rise and the best rooms go early, so book well ahead if those weeks are fixed for you.
September stays warm at 28°C, though it is also the wettest month of the year at Palma, with around ten rain days. From October to April the island is mild rather than hot, with daytime highs of 15°C to 20°C, which suits walking and sightseeing holidays in mallorca more than sunbathing.
Getting there from the UK
Palma de Mallorca (PMI) is the island's airport and has direct flights from the UK. Transfers to the south-west are short: about 15 minutes to Palmanova, 16 to Magaluf, 18 to Calvià and 20 to Santa Ponsa. Resorts in the north and east take noticeably longer by road, so allow for that if you are arriving on a late flight.
The island also has ferry ports at Palma and Alcúdia, useful if you fancy combining your stay with another of the Balearic Islands. If you would rather explore at your own pace, you can compare car hire on this page too.
Booking your package holiday
A package bundles your flight, hotel and airport transfers into one booking, and when sold as a package it is ATOL-protected, which is why it remains the usual way to book holidays on majorca from Britain. You choose your board basis, from room only to all-inclusive, and the transfer to your resort is arranged for you.
On this page you can compare live deals from Jet2holidays, TUI, loveholidays and On the Beach side by side, so if you were searching for jet2holidays majorca you can see how it stacks up against the others. You can also check hotel prices and browse tours and tickets, from cave visits at Porto Cristo to days out in Sóller, to round off your majorca spain holidays.
