Cheap Holidays to Tenerife: When, Where and How to Save

Island · Canary Islands · Spain

Finding cheap holidays to Tenerife is mostly a matter of timing and choosing the right base. The island's climate does much of the work for you: even in January the Adeje weather station records highs of around 21°C, so you do not need to pay summer-holiday rates to get warmth. Direct flights from the United Kingdom land at Tenerife South, only 14 minutes from Playa de las Américas and 15 from Adeje, which keeps transfers short. The big southern resorts of Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas carry the most demand and the widest choice, and you can compare package, hotel and car hire options for all of them right here on this page.

Quieter months that cost less

February is Tenerife's shoulder month, sitting between the Christmas and Easter rushes, and it is usually when demand eases off. The trade-off is modest: Adeje averages highs of about 20°C and lows of 13°C, with around six rain days and 27 mm of rain, the dampest pattern of the year by days. For most British travellers escaping a February at home, that is still very pleasant.

January and the weeks of November and December outside the school holidays are also worth a look, with highs of 21°C to 24°C and only three or four rain days. If you are hunting for holiday deals to Tenerife in October, avoid the half-term week: the rest of the month offers highs around 26°C, four rain days and much less family demand than July and August, when temperatures reach 26°C to 28°C and prices follow the school calendar.

Which resorts tend to cost less

The larger, busier southern resorts are usually where budget holidays to Tenerife are easiest to find, simply because they have the most hotel stock competing for your booking. Costa Adeje is by far the most searched resort on the island, followed by Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. All three sit close to Tenerife South: Playa de las Américas is 14 minutes away and Adeje 15, so transfers are short and inexpensive. Siam Park water park and the Barranco del Infierno protected area near Adeje are both on the doorstep.

Los Gigantes, on the west coast about 30 minutes from the airport, is smaller and quieter, so there is less choice. Puerto de la Cruz in the north, home to Loro Parque and Lago Martiánez, is a lovely base with its own following, but Tenerife North has no direct flights from the UK, so most British visitors land in the south and face a longer journey across the island.

Simple ways to spend less

Package deals to Tenerife, bundling flight, hotel and transfers, are the normal way British travellers book the island, and comparing several Tenerife package holiday deals side by side is the easiest way to see what a given week really costs. The deal buttons on this page let you check the main package providers, plus hotel prices, tours and tickets and car hire, in one place.

Flexibility pays. Midweek departures often price differently from weekend ones, and flying from a regional UK airport rather than a London one can open up different options. Self-catering apartments suit families who want to eat in some evenings, while all-inclusive can make sense in the big southern resorts if you want a fixed budget. Booking well ahead for school holidays, or watching for late Tenerife holiday offers in quieter months, are the two windows where bargain holidays to Tenerife tend to appear.

Once there, you can keep costs down with free days on the beach and a single paid outing, such as Loro Parque or Siam Park, which you can book here alongside your stay.

Getting there from the UK

Tenerife South (TFS) is the airport with direct flights from the United Kingdom. From the terminal it is about 14 minutes to Playa de las Américas, 15 minutes to Adeje, 24 minutes to Guía de Isora and 30 minutes to Los Gigantes, which is why the southern resorts dominate package brochures.

Tenerife North (TFN) sits just 6 minutes from Tacoronte and 8 minutes from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with La Orotava 18 minutes away, but it has no direct UK flights, so it mainly matters if you connect via another Spanish airport. Hiring a car makes it easy to reach the north from the south for a day at Playa de Las Teresitas or the Roques de Anaga. Ferries leave from Los Cristianos, about a mile from the resort centre, and from Santa Cruz, with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria around 56 miles away.
