What the year looks like

The island has two distinct halves to its year. From June to September, daytime highs run between 27°C and 32°C, and nights stay at 20°C or above. From December to February, highs settle at 16°C, with lows of 9°C to 10°C. The months in between move quickly. April jumps to 21°C, and November still manages 20°C.

Rain is light overall, but it does not fall where you might expect. July is almost completely dry, with 4mm on a single day. August and especially September bring short, heavy bursts, and September is the wettest month at 44mm over nine days. May also averages nine wet days, although its total is only 26mm, so the showers tend to be brief.

The climate table does not include sea temperatures, so we will not guess them here. Air temperatures, however, make June to October the obvious stretch for beach days at coves such as Cala Comte, Cala Bassa or Cala Llonga.

Month by month through the year

January and February are the coolest months, at 16°C by day and 9°C to 10°C at night, with five or six wet days. March warms to 18°C but is fairly damp at 35mm. April is one of the best months on the island. It reaches 21°C, with just three rainy days, which makes April weather well suited to walking and quieter beaches. In May the temperature climbs to 23°C with lows of 16°C. Showers are more frequent across nine days, yet the month stays fairly dry overall.

June is another of the best months, at 28°C with four wet days. July peaks at 32°C, with nights at 23°C, and is the driest month of all. August is almost as hot at 31°C but brings 38mm of rain, usually in a few heavy storms across three days. Ibiza in September is still warm at 27°C, with 21°C nights, but it is the wettest month, so pack for the odd downpour.

October weather earns its place among the best months. The temperature in October reaches 25°C by day and 18°C at night, with seven wet days and 28mm of rain. November cools to 20°C with four wet days. December returns to 16°C and is the driest month outside high summer, at just 14mm.

What to pack each season

From June to September, pack light cotton and linen, a sun hat and high-factor sun cream, because July and August regularly reach 31°C to 32°C. Nights stay above 20°C, so you will rarely need more than a thin layer. In August and September, add a compact umbrella or light rain jacket for the occasional heavy shower.

For April, May and October, bring summer clothes plus a jumper or light jacket for the evenings. Lows then run from 13°C to 18°C. May's frequent showers also make a packable waterproof worthwhile.

From November to March, think of a mild British spring. You will want layers, a warmer jacket for 9°C to 12°C evenings, comfortable shoes for exploring Ibiza Town or the Roman fish farm at S'Argamassa, and something waterproof for the five or six wet days a month.

What to pack for Ibiza in October

  • T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 25°C by day and 18°C at night.
  • A light rain jacket: about 7 rainy days in October.
