Choosing a Base in Nerja
Most visitors want to be near the centre, where the Balcón de Europa and the closest beaches, Playa de Burriana, Playa del Carabeo and Playa de la Calahonda, are all within about half a mile. Staying here means you can walk to the sand and back without needing the car.
If you would rather be closer to the Cueva de Nerja or the beaches around Maro, a base a mile or two out puts those within easy reach, though you will rely more on car hire. With a population of around 21,800, Nerja is a sizeable town rather than a village, so there is a reasonable spread of accommodation. This page shows live hotel prices so you can compare options for your dates.
Hire a car
The easiest way to reach Nerja and the villages around it is a hire car from Málaga (AGP), about 50 min away.

Tips from Robin
Practical Tips for Nerja
Granada airport is actually a few minutes closer by road than Málaga, so it is worth checking both when searching for flights.
In July and August highs reach 32 to 33°C and nights rarely drop below 25°C, so plan cave visits and walks for the morning and keep the afternoons for the beach or shade. If you are travelling in March or October, pack a light waterproof: these are the town's wettest months by some margin.
With most beaches and the Balcón de Europa within a mile of the centre, you can manage much of a stay on foot, but car hire makes the Maro coves, Playa de las Alberquillas and the inland villages far easier to reach.
