Resort · Balearic Islands · Mallorca · Spain
Most people searching for sol Palmanova Majorca want the same thing: reliable sun, a beach close to the hotel and a short hop from the airport. Palma Nova delivers on all three. It is a coastal resort on Mallorca's south-west shore, about 15 minutes by road from Palma de Mallorca airport, which has direct flights from the United Kingdom. Its neighbour Magaluf is barely a mile away. The bay is lined with a run of small beaches, from Palmanova beach itself to Son Caliu and Na Nadala. Inland are Marineland Mallorca and the Castle of Bendinat. Summer afternoons reach 32°C in July and August, and May and June are the sweet spot.

What kind of resort this is
Palma Nova is a compact beach resort of around 7,000 residents in the municipality of Calvià, on the western side of the Bay of Palma. Life here revolves around the shoreline. Rather than one long strand, the coast breaks into a series of coves and sandy bays: platja del Carregador in the centre, Palmanova beach and Na Nadala within a mile, Son Caliu Beach just along the shore, and Platja de l'Hostalet a little further on.
The resort suits families and couples who want an easy, sunny week or fortnight. The main sights are close by, and the island capital and its ferry port are only around six miles away. If you are drawing up a list of places to go in Palma Nova, Marineland Mallorca is barely a mile from the centre. The Castle of Bendinat, about two and a half miles away, adds a little history to a beach holiday.
Choosing between the two neighbours
The area has two linked resorts. Palmanova itself is the larger, with more of the area's points of interest: most of the coves, Marineland Mallorca and the Castle of Bendinat. It is the natural base if you want the beach on your doorstep and family attractions within easy reach.
Magaluf lies about a mile to the west, with a population of roughly 5,300. It puts you closer to Western Water Park, themed around Western Land, Indian Town and El Paso, and to the small beach of Cala Vinyes. It is also near Naveta Alemany, an archaeological site in Calvià. The two resorts are close enough to explore both from either base. For quieter swimming, Cala Comtessa and Caleta de Bendinat lie roughly two and a half to three miles east of Palma Nova.
When the weather is best
Instead of refreshing AccuWeather for Palma Nova every morning, it helps to know the pattern recorded at nearby Palma. May and June are the best months: highs of 24°C and 29°C, few rainy days and long, bright evenings. July and August are the hottest, at around 32°C with very little rain, which suits sun-seekers but can be a lot for small children at midday.
September is still warm at 28°C but is the wettest month, with about ten rainy days, and October brings 24°C with showers. Winter is mild rather than beach weather, with highs of 15°C to 17°C from December to February. That makes the shoulder months better for walks and sightseeing than for sunbathing.
Getting there from the UK
Palma de Mallorca airport (PMI) has direct flights from the United Kingdom. It is the nearest airport by a long way: the drive to Palmanova takes about 15 minutes, and to Magaluf about 16. Package transfers are therefore short, and car hire is easy if you plan to explore the island.
If you are combining islands, the port of Palma is around six miles away. Alcúdia, on the north coast, is about 39 miles by road, and there are sea connections to Ibiza.
Booking your package and extras
Most British travellers book Palma Nova as a package, with flights, hotel and transfers together. Jet2 packages to Palma Nova appear alongside TUI, loveholidays and On the Beach, and you can compare their deals on this page. With an airport transfer of around a quarter of an hour, the board basis matters more than the journey. All-inclusive, half board and self-catering all suit a resort where the beach is a short walk away. Prices tend to climb during the UK school holidays, so travelling in May, June or term-time September can be worth considering.
You can also check hotel prices directly here and compare car hire. Tours and tickets cover the local attractions and day trips across Mallorca.
