Marbella Spain Weather: Month by Month Guide and Best Times
Resort · Costa del Sol · Spain
Marbella Spain weather follows a clear Costa del Sol rhythm: long, dry summers, mild winters and two wetter spells. On the station's figures July brings no rain days at all, August peaks at around 32°C, and even January holds a daytime high of 17°C. The catch is that rain arrives in bursts, with October and March the wettest months by some distance. For British travellers flying into Málaga, a little over half an hour's drive from town, that pattern makes it easy to choose your weeks, whether you want reliable beach heat or a gentler break for walking the old town and the seafront.

What the climate is like
The Marbella weather picture is one of warmth for most of the year. Daytime highs climb from 17°C in January and February to 22°C in April, 27°C by June and a peak of 31 to 32°C in July and August, before easing back to 24°C in October and 18°C in December. Nights follow the same curve, from around 10°C in midwinter to 24°C on the warmest August evenings.
Rain is the variable to watch rather than temperature. Summer is close to bone dry, with just one rain day in August and none in July, while October collects about 115mm over nine days and March around 104mm over seven. The best months for settled weather are April, May, June, July, September and November; January, February, March, October and December are the shoulder months, mild but less predictable.
If you are planning around a Marbella weather forecast for a specific trip, the live forecast at the top of this page covers Marbella weather today and the days ahead. Search a Marbella weather forecast 14 days out and you will get a general steer, but the monthly averages below are the better guide when you are still choosing dates.
Month by month through the year
January to March are cool by Costa del Sol standards but rarely cold, with highs of 17 to 19°C. Marbella weather in March is the wild card: it is noticeably wetter, with around 104mm of rain across seven days, so pack for a mix of sunny promenade walks and the odd indoor afternoon at Hospital Bazán or the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo. Marbella April weather is a complete change, with highs of 22°C and only two rain days, which is why April opens the best-months list.
Marbella weather in May brings 24°C days, nights around 16°C and about four rain days, ideal for exploring Castillo de Marbella and the old town before the real heat. June reaches 27°C, then July and August deliver the classic beach season on Playa de la Fontanilla, Playa de Venus and Playa del Faro, with highs of 31 to 32°C and warm nights above 20°C. August is the hottest month of all, so plan beach time for mornings and late afternoons.
September drops back to 27°C with five rain days and is one of the best months to go. Marbella October weather stays warm at 24°C but is the wettest month of the year, with about 115mm over nine days, so expect a few downpours between sunny spells. November is a pleasant surprise at 21°C and just two rain days, and December settles at 18°C by day and 10°C at night. Across the year, the Marbella temperature rarely strays far from comfortable, which is why package holidays from the UK run through every season; you can compare package, hotel and car hire deals on this page.
What to pack by season
For July and August, think light cotton and linen, a sun hat, high-factor sun cream and sandals, with only a thin layer for the evenings, which stay above 20°C. June and September are much the same, though a light cardigan earns its place on the odd breezy night by the sea.
In spring and autumn, from April to May and again in October and November, bring summer clothes plus a light jacket for evenings around 14 to 17°C. October and March both call for a compact umbrella or a packable waterproof, given how much rain those months can bring in a short time.
From December to February, daytime is often pleasant enough for a T-shirt in the sun, but nights fall to around 10°C, so pack a warm jumper, long trousers and closed shoes. A pair of walking shoes is worth it all year if you plan to head up towards Sierra Blanca.
Coast versus the hill villages
All of the figures on this page come from the Marbella climate station on the coast. Inland, the small villages of Ojén, about 4 miles away, and Istán, about 6 miles away, sit back from the sea near the Sierra Blanca mountain, and we do not have separate climate readings for them.
Treat the numbers here as a guide to the seafront and the town centre. If you are planning a day in the hills or a walk on Sierra Blanca, check the live forecast before you set off and take an extra layer, since you will be away from the beaches and the coastal readings.
What to pack for Marbella in October
- T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 24°C by day and 17°C at night.
- A light rain jacket: about 9 rainy days in October.

Questions about the weather in Marbella
When is the best time to visit Marbella?
The best months are April, May, June, July, September and November. April and May give 22 to 24°C with few rain days, July and September suit beach holidays, and November is still around 21°C with just two rain days. August is the hottest month, peaking at about 32°C.
What is the weather like in Marbella in April?
April is one of the driest, most settled months, with daytime highs of about 22°C, nights around 14°C and only two rain days bringing roughly 8mm of rain. It is warm enough for promenade walks and sunny afternoons on the beach without the heat of high summer.
Does it rain much in Marbella in October?
October is the wettest month on the Marbella figures, with about 115mm of rain spread over nine days. It is still warm, with highs around 24°C and nights near 17°C, so expect sunny spells broken by heavier showers and pack a light waterproof.
How warm is Marbella in May?
May brings daytime highs of about 24°C and nights around 16°C, with roughly four rain days and 20mm of rain. It is a comfortable month for sightseeing in the old town and for the beach before the stronger heat of July and August.
Is March a good month for Marbella?
March is mild, with highs of about 19°C, but it is one of the two wettest months, with around 104mm of rain over seven days. It works for a quieter break if you pack an umbrella and plan some indoor time, such as the town's museums.
How cold does Marbella get in winter?
Winter is mild. January and February reach about 17°C by day, December around 18°C, and nights drop to roughly 10 or 11°C. A warm jumper for the evenings is usually enough, with five or six rain days a month in December and January.
