Costa Blanca Spain Weather: Month by Month Guide

Coast · Spain

Costa Blanca Spain weather follows a clear Mediterranean rhythm, and the figures here come from the climate station in Benidorm, the coast's busiest resort. Summer is properly hot, with July reaching an average high of 31°C and nights that stay around 23°C. Winter is mild rather than warm, with January and February highs of 16°C. Rain is scarce for most of the year but gathers in two short bursts, in late spring and early autumn. Below I walk through each season, from the long May to November stretch that suits most beach holidays to the quieter winter months, with notes on packing and on how far these Benidorm readings travel along the coast.

The pattern through the year

The Costa Blanca weather splits neatly into a long warm season and a short mild one. From May to November, the months that work best for a beach holiday, daytime highs run from 21°C to 31°C. July is the hottest month at 31°C, with August close behind at 30°C, and both keep overnight lows at 23°C, so evenings stay warm enough to eat outside.

The coolest stretch is December to February, when highs sit between 16°C and 17°C and nights drop to 9°C. March and April warm up gradually to 19°C and 20°C. These winter and spring months are the shoulder season: pleasant for walking, sightseeing in Alicante or climbing towards Santa Bárbara Castle, but rarely beach weather.

Rain is light overall. The wettest months are May, with 56mm over seven days, and September, with 50mm over seven days. July is almost dry, with 5mm across two days.

What each month brings

January and February are the coolest months, at 16°C by day and 9°C at night, with rain on around three days. March brings 19°C highs but six wet days, and April settles at 20°C with four. Costa Blanca weather in May reaches 22°C, yet it is also the wettest month on the table at 56mm, though that falls across only seven days, so most days stay dry.

June climbs to 26°C with lows of 20°C and just four wet days. July and August are the peak, at 31°C and 30°C, with two and three rainy days respectively, the time for Benidorm's Platja de Llevant and Platja de Ponent or the waterpark at Aqualandia. September eases back to 26°C but sees 50mm of rain over seven days, often in short heavy spells.

Costa Blanca weather in October is still warm at 25°C by day and 17°C at night, with rain on five days. November is a quiet favourite: 21°C highs, 13°C lows and just 10mm of rain over three days. December cools to 17°C, with only two wet days.

What to pack by season

For June to September, pack light cotton and linen, a sun hat, high-factor sun cream and sunglasses; with July and August highs of 30°C to 31°C and nights in the low twenties, you will rarely need anything warmer than a thin shirt after dark. A compact umbrella or light waterproof is worth having in September, when seven wet days are typical.

In May and October, bring summer clothes for the day plus a light jumper or jacket for evenings, when lows sit at 15°C to 17°C. A waterproof layer makes sense in May, the wettest month. From November to April, think in layers: days of 16°C to 21°C feel lovely in the sun, but nights dropping to 9°C call for a proper jacket. Comfortable walking shoes suit the cooler months, especially if you plan to explore Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park at Calp or El Montgó Natural Park near Dénia.

Using these figures along the coast

All the readings on this page come from the station in Benidorm, which sits roughly in the middle of the coast. The resorts stretch a fair way either side: Dénia lies about 32 miles from the centre of the Costa Blanca and Torrevieja about 42 miles, with Calpe, Altea, Villajoyosa, El Campello, Alicante and Santa Pola in between.

The climate table does not break the figures down by town, so treat them as a reliable guide to the general pattern rather than an exact measurement for every resort. If you are checking the weather in Campoamor or elsewhere towards the southern end, the same seasonal shape applies, and the live forecast above gives the day-by-day picture. Murcia airport, 38 minutes from Torrevieja, is the handier arrival point for the south, while Alicante serves most of the coast.
