Benidorm weather: month by month, rain and best months

Resort · Costa Blanca · Spain

Benidorm weather follows a dry, Mediterranean pattern. Winter afternoons reach about 16°C, and July climbs to around 31°C. Rain is scarce for most of the year, usually two to four wet days a month, with heavier spells in May and again in September and October. That gives British travellers a long season. May to November are the strongest months for a beach holiday on the Costa Blanca, and December to April suit anyone who wants mild walking weather rather than heat. The live Benidorm weather forecast sits above this guide. Below is the typical year, month by month, so you can choose when to book.

What the climate is like

The year splits neatly in two. From May to November daytime highs run from 21°C to 31°C, and nights in July and August stay at about 23°C. The rest of the year is mild rather than cold. December, January and February all sit at around 16°C to 17°C by day and 9°C at night, which is warmer than most of the United Kingdom manages in late spring.

Rainfall is low overall, but it does not fall evenly. May is the wettest month by volume at about 56mm over seven days, and September is close behind with 50mm, also over seven days. July is almost dry, with about 5mm across two days. When people search for the Benidorm Spain weather before a trip, this is the pattern to remember: hot and dry in high summer, with short, heavy showers more likely in late spring and early autumn.

Month by month through the year

January and February are the coolest months, with highs of 16°C, lows of 9°C and about three wet days each. If you are checking Benidorm in March weather, expect a clear step up to 19°C by day and 11°C at night. March also has around six rainy days, but they are usually light, adding up to about 17mm. April weather in Benidorm is similar, at about 20°C with four wet days. Both months are good for the La Cruz de Benidorm viewpoint or the cove at Cala Tío Ximo, but most people will find the sea a bit fresh.

May warms to 22°C but brings the year's heaviest rain, so pack a light layer. June jumps to 26°C with only four wet days. July is the hottest month at around 31°C and is also the driest, and August is close behind at 30°C. These are the peak weeks for Aqualandia, Terra Mítica and Mundomar, and also for school-holiday demand on package deals.

September is still summery at 26°C, though it has seven rainy days. For Benidorm in October weather, plan on highs of about 25°C, lows of 17°C and roughly five wet days. That Benidorm temperature in October is a big reason half-term breaks are popular here. November drops to a pleasant 21°C with three wet days. December returns to 17°C and is one of the driest months of the year.

What to pack each season

For June to September, pack light cotton, a sunhat, high-factor sun cream and sandals for the promenades between the beaches. Evenings in July and August stay around 23°C, so you will rarely need more than a thin shirt after dark. In May, September and October, add a compact umbrella or a showerproof jacket, because these are the months when a short downpour is most likely.

From December to April, think British spring. T-shirts work at midday, but bring a jumper or fleece for evenings that drop to 9°C to 13°C. Comfortable shoes are worth packing if you plan to walk up to the Mirador de Sant Jaume or out to Finestrat, about 5 miles away. Nearer your departure, check a 14 day forecast for Benidorm and adjust what you bring. Further ahead, a 21 day weather outlook for Benidorm is only a rough guide, so rely on the monthly averages above until then.

What to pack for Benidorm in October
