Alicante Spain Weather: Month by Month Guide for UK Travellers
City · Costa Blanca · Spain
Alicante Spain weather is easy to love. Summer is long and dry, winter is mild, and the city's own climate station records only around 51 rainy days a year. July and August both reach average highs of 30°C. January, the coolest month, still manages 16°C by day. Rain arrives in short bursts rather than long grey spells, with March and the early autumn the likeliest times to need an umbrella. Alicante airport sits just 9 minutes from the centre, so you lose almost no holiday time on a transfer. Below you'll find the full year month by month, the best and shoulder months, and what to pack for each season on the Costa Blanca.

What the climate is like
Alicante has a dry, sunny Mediterranean climate with a long warm season and a short, gentle winter. Average highs climb from 16°C in January to 30°C in July and August, while nights range from 8°C in January to 24°C in August. The best months for a beach holiday run from May to October, when daytime highs sit between 23°C and 30°C.
Rain is light overall, but it isn't spread evenly. March is the wettest month on record, with around 59mm over eight days, and September and October bring the autumn showers, roughly 43 to 49mm across six days each. High summer is almost bone dry: July sees about 3mm on a single day.
The live Alicante forecast at the top of this page shows the weather today and the days ahead. Use this guide alongside it for the longer pattern, much as you might check BBC Weather for Alicante before you fly.
The year month by month
January and February are the coolest months, with highs of 16°C and 17°C and lows of 8°C and 9°C. February is one of the driest months of the year at around 14mm, so February weather in Alicante suits city breaks and sightseeing. March weather is warmer at 19°C, but it is the wettest month, with about eight rainy days. April weather brings 20°C highs, 13°C nights and around six wet days. These shoulder months are pleasant for exploring the old town and its museums rather than lying on a sun lounger.
May is the turning point at 23°C. June reaches 27°C with only two rainy days, and July and August peak at 30°C, with overnight lows of 23°C and 24°C. This is the hottest, driest and busiest stretch, and package prices tend to rise during the UK school holidays.
September still averages 27°C, though rain picks up to around 49mm over six days. October weather is a favourite with many British travellers: the average temperature in October reaches 24°C by day and 17°C at night, still warm enough for the beach. November drops to 20°C, and December weather settles at around 18°C with just three rainy days, mild enough for a winter escape.
What to pack by season
From June to September, pack light cotton and linen, a sunhat, high-factor sun cream and sandals. Nights in July and August stay above 23°C, so you won't need much for the evenings. A refillable water bottle is useful for the climb up to Santa Bárbara Castle in the heat.
In May and October, take summer clothes plus a light jumper for evenings, when temperatures dip to 16°C or 17°C. A compact umbrella is sensible in September and October, when showers are more common.
From November to April, bring layers: a warm jacket for nights that fall to 8°C to 13°C, comfortable walking shoes for the old town, and a waterproof for March and April. Days are often bright, so sunglasses belong in the case all year round.
What to pack for Alicante in October
- T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 24°C by day and 17°C at night.

What is the weather like in Alicante in October?

It's mild rather than hot. December averages 18°C by day and 10°C at night, with about three rainy days. February is slightly cooler at 17°C but among the driest months, with around 14mm of rain. Both suit sightseeing and walking better than sunbathing.
How rainy is Alicante in March?

It helps if you want to explore beyond the city, for example to the Illeta dels Banyets archaeological site at El Campello, about 7.5 miles along the coast. You can compare car hire on this page alongside package holiday deals and hotel prices.
