Last Minute Holidays Canary Islands: Late Deals by Island

Region · Spain

Most last minute holidays Canary Islands travellers book from the UK are packages: flight, hotel and transfer sold together, often a few weeks or even days before departure. The islands suit this way of travelling well. Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura all have airports with direct flights from the United Kingdom, and the transfers are short, from about 5 minutes at Lanzarote to around 42 minutes for Costa Calma on Fuerteventura. The climate helps too: at Adeje, daytime highs sit between 20°C and 28°C all year. If you can be flexible on island, resort and departure airport, there is usually something worth comparing.

  • Lanzarote airport sits 6 minutes from Puerto del Carmen, so a late arrival still leaves an evening free.
  • Winter highs of around 21°C at Adeje make a December or January late booking a real sun break.
  • Four islands with direct UK flights means more seats and rooms to choose from when you book late.

How late deals actually work

Late deals come from package stock that tour operators have not yet sold: seats on charter and scheduled flights, plus hotel rooms held for those flights. As departure gets closer, that stock is repriced, and late deal holidays to the Canary Islands appear for departures within the next few weeks. You book the flight, the hotel and usually the airport transfer as one holiday, which also keeps the arrangements protected as a package.

The more flexible you are, the more you will find. A fortnight on Tenerife from one airport may be scarce while a week in Corralejo on Fuerteventura, or in Costa Teguise on Lanzarote, has rooms left. Being open on board basis helps as well: the same hotel can show different options from self-catering through to all inclusive, and the late stock is not always on the board you had in mind.

It is worth deciding early what matters most. Families after Siam Park near Playa de las Américas or Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz should search Tenerife; those wanting dunes and Lobos Island offshore should look at Corralejo; Palmitos Park and the Maspalomas Lighthouse point to southern Gran Canaria.

When late availability turns up

The Canaries have a long season. Almost every month counts as a good one for sunshine, so demand is spread across the year rather than squeezed into summer. February is the one shoulder month in the data: at Adeje it averages a high of 20°C and around six rain days, still mild by British standards, and it is where late availability is most likely to be found.

Outside February, the best chances of late deals to the Canaries are the term-time weeks of the other months, away from the school holidays when families book well ahead and prices rise in general. Late spring is a good window: April and May bring highs of 22 to 23°C with only about two rain days each. Midsummer is the warmest, reaching 28°C in August, but it overlaps the long school break, so leftover stock then is thinner.

Check the departure airport, the transfer and the board basis on each, as these differ between providers even for the same hotel.

If you would rather put the trip together yourself, you can also check hotel prices and compare car hire here, and browse tours and tickets for places such as Loro Parque, Siam Park or the Barranco del Infierno above Adeje.
