Things to Do in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria: Beaches and Days Out
Resort · Canary Islands · Gran Canaria · Spain
Most of the things to do in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria start with the sea. The resort's own sand, Playa de Puerto Rico, sits about half a mile from the centre. Within roughly 2 miles you can reach five more beaches: Anfi Del Mar, Balitos, Cura, Tiritaña and Patalavaca. The weather helps. At the nearby Maspalomas station, daytime highs run from 23°C in winter to 33°C in August, and July and August usually pass without a single rain day. This page sets out the beaches by distance, notes which suit families, and shows where you can compare tours, tickets and car hire for the days you want to spend away from the sand.

Puerto Rico is a beach resort first and foremost, and the sights worth knowing are its stretches of sand. Playa de Puerto Rico is the town beach and the closest, about half a mile away. Anfi Del Mar Beach is the best known of the neighbours, roughly a mile off, and makes an easy morning out.
The climate is the other draw. Eleven months of the year count as good months to go; only August, when highs reach 33°C, falls outside that list. Winter stays mild at around 23°C by day and 17°C at night, which is why so many British travellers come here between November and March.
Beaches by distance from town
Closest to hand is Playa de Puerto Rico, about half a mile from the centre and the natural base for a first day. It is the obvious answer for anyone asking for the best beach in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria, simply because you can walk there and back for lunch.
A little further, at around a mile and a quarter, three beaches make good half-day trips: Anfi Del Mar Beach, Playa de Balitos and Playa de Cura. Each gives a change of scene without the need for a long journey.
At about 2 miles out are Playa de Patalavaca and Playa de Tiritaña. These suit a slower day, or a morning drive if you have arranged car hire, and they round out a fortnight that would otherwise revolve around a single stretch of sand.
Days out with children
For families, distance matters more than anything. Playa de Puerto Rico, about half a mile from town, is the easiest beach with small children, since nap times and forgotten buckets are only a short walk away. Anfi Del Mar, Balitos and Cura are all around a mile and a quarter off, close enough for a family outing.
Mind the summer heat. July and August bring highs of 31°C to 33°C at Maspalomas, so plan beach time for mornings and late afternoons. Spring and autumn, with highs between 25°C and 28°C, are gentler for younger children. Always check local conditions before swimming.
Booking tours, tickets and transport
You can compare tours and tickets from this page using the See tours and tickets button, alongside car hire if you want to reach the beaches further from town on your own schedule. Hotel prices are shown here too, which is useful if you are weighing a holiday club or apartment-style stay in Puerto Rico against a standard hotel.
Most British travellers book Gran Canaria as a package, with flight, hotel and transfers together. You can compare package deals from Jet2holidays, TUI, loveholidays and On the Beach on this page. As a general rule, prices rise during UK school holidays, so travelling in term time usually gives more choice.
