Within 10 miles you will find the Punta La Entallada Lighthouse, the archaeological site of Poblado de La Atalayita, the beach at Playa de los James and the Cuevas Samarín. Staying Inland or Near the Coast

Tuineje itself is an inland town at around 185 metres, so staying here means a quieter, more local base rather than a beachfront strip. With a population of about 13,600, it has the feel of a working island town rather than a resort.

If you would rather wake up near the sea, the coastal resort of Costa Calma lies about 16 miles away, and Playa de los James is around 9 miles from town. Tuineje is inland, so every beach and the lighthouse involve a drive of 9 miles or more; car hire from Fuerteventura Airport makes the most sense for getting around the sights and day trips.

If you travel in August, expect the island's hottest weather at about 31°C and plan outdoor visits such as the Cuevas Samarín for earlier in the day.
