Castle, Lighthouse and Town Beaches
The best-known sight in the area is Castillo de Fuste, a protected cultural property about 7 miles south in the neighbouring municipality of Antigua. Closer to home, Puerto del Rosario Lighthouse stands about 1.2 miles from the centre. It makes a good destination for an evening stroll for two.
The beaches come in two groups. In town, Los Hornos is about 0.4 miles away, Playa Los Pozos 0.8 miles and Playa Blanca roughly 1.6 miles. Note that this is Fuerteventura's Playa Blanca, not the Lanzarote ferry port of the same name. Heading south, Playa de los Valdivias lies about 5 miles out, Playa del Perchel nearly 6 miles and Playa de Fuste just over 7 miles, close to the castle. All of them suit families.

Practical Points Before You Go
Pack a light layer even in summer. Winter nights drop to around 15 or 16°C, and evenings by the sea feel cooler than the daytime highs suggest.
Puerto del Rosario is a working town of some 35,700 people, so expect everyday town rhythms rather than wall-to-wall resort life. For a more resort-style beach day, the southern beaches around Fuste are a short drive away.
If you are visiting in February, allow for the odd shower. It is the island's wettest month, though still dry by British standards.
