Things to Do in Puerto Pollensa: Beaches, Lighthouses and Views

Resort · Balearic Islands · Mallorca · Spain

Most of the things to do in Puerto Pollensa sit within a short hop of the harbour. Known locally as Port de Pollença, this resort on Mallorca's northern coast keeps its best sights close: the Roman-era archaeological site of Bocchoris lies about half a mile out of town, two small beaches are roughly 2 miles away, and the Far de Formentor lighthouse marks the tip of the peninsula about 8 miles off. Palma de Mallorca airport, served by direct flights from the UK, is around 43 minutes by road. Below I have grouped the sights by distance, flagged what works for children, and noted where you can compare tours, tickets and car hire on this page.

The sights worth your time

If you only do one excursion, make it the Far de Formentor, the lighthouse at the end of the Formentor peninsula, around 8 miles from the harbour. It is the best-known landmark on this stretch of coast, and on the way you can stop at the Mirador de la Creueta, a viewpoint about 2.5 miles out of town that looks back over the bay.

Closer to home, Bocchoris is an archaeological site barely half a mile from Port de Pollença, so it fits neatly into a morning before the beach. The Punta de l'Avançada Lighthouse, about 2 miles away on the point across the bay, makes a gentle outing for an evening stroll or a short drive.

For beaches, El Caló and Ca'n Cullerassa are both around 2 miles from the centre, while Cala en Gossalba, roughly 6 miles away, takes a little more effort to reach and rewards those who make it.

Near town or further afield

Within a couple of miles of the harbour you have Bocchoris, the Punta de l'Avançada Lighthouse and the beaches of El Caló and Ca'n Cullerassa. These are the easy wins of any Puerto Pollensa beach holiday: no long drives, and simple to slot around lunch or a siesta in the July heat, when highs reach about 32°C.

Heading north onto the Formentor peninsula, the Mirador de la Creueta comes first at around 2.5 miles, then Cala en Gossalba at about 6 miles, and finally the Far de Formentor at roughly 8 miles. Car hire makes this route far simpler, and you can compare providers on this page.

Further out, the ferry port at Alcúdia is about 6 miles away, with Palma at around 34 miles and Ciutadella, on Menorca, at about 40 miles, useful if you fancy extending your list of things to do in Pollensa, Mallorca, with a crossing or a day in the capital.

Ideas for a family holiday

Short distances are the real advantage for families. Bocchoris, about half a mile from town, is close enough to visit without tired legs, and El Caló and Ca'n Cullerassa, both around 2 miles away, keep beach days uncomplicated. The 43-minute transfer from Palma de Mallorca airport also spares younger children a long first day.

The Formentor drive suits families who are happy in the car for a while; break it up at the Mirador de la Creueta before carrying on to the lighthouse. If you are travelling in high summer, plan outings for the morning: July and August highs sit around 31 to 32°C.
