Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen Weather: Month by Month Guide

Resort · Canary Islands · Lanzarote · Spain

Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen weather is one of the most dependable on Spain's holiday map, which is why British travellers book it in every month of the year. Daytime highs run from 21°C in January and February to 29°C in August. Rain is scarce: most months see only one to three wet days, and July, August and September each average just 1mm. The resort sits a six-minute drive from Lanzarote airport, so very little of your holiday goes on transfers. Below you will find the real monthly pattern from the local climate record, how the seasons differ and what to pack. The live forecast above the text covers the coming days.

What the climate is really like

The weather in Puerto del Carmen, Spain, changes less over the year than almost anywhere a British holidaymaker might fly to. The coolest daytime highs are 21°C in January and February. The warmest is 29°C in August, so the gap between winter and summer is only about eight degrees. Nights follow the same gentle curve, from 15°C between December and March up to 21°C in August.

Rain is the exception, not the rule. February is the wettest month at 17mm, spread over about four days. March has the most wet days, around five, though it brings less rain in total. From April to September rainfall stays in single figures, and in high summer it barely registers. The climate record names every month as a good time to go, and it gives no shoulder season in the usual sense. What you are really choosing between is mild warmth and proper heat.

Month by month through the year

January to March is the mildest stretch, with highs of 21°C to 23°C and lows of 15°C. This is also when most of the year's rain falls, but even February only averages four wet days. April turns noticeably warmer at 25°C with just one wet day. May and June sit at 24°C to 25°C, and the nights warm from 17°C to 19°C.

July to September is the hottest and driest period. Highs reach 27°C in July, peak at 29°C in August and ease back to 27°C in September, with nights of 19°C to 21°C. Each of these months averages a single wet day. October stays very warm at 28°C with about three wet days. November is still 25°C, and December settles at 22°C, which keeps Fariones Playa and Playa de los Pocillos in use right through the winter.

If you check BBC weather for Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, or a 14 day weather forecast, shortly before you fly, read it against this pattern. Longer outlooks such as a 21 day or 28 day weather forecast for Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen are best treated as a broad guide. The averages here are steadier for planning when to book.

What to pack for each season

From December to March, pack for warm days and fresher evenings. Daytime highs of 21°C to 23°C are fine for the beach, but nights drop to 15°C, so a light jumper or jacket earns its place. A thin waterproof is worth taking in February and March, when the few wet days of the year tend to fall.

From June to October, think heat and sun. With highs of 25°C to 29°C and almost no rain, light clothing, a hat and plenty of sun protection matter more than anything else. Evenings stay around 19°C to 21°C, so you rarely need more than a light layer. April, May and November fall in between: summer clothes by day, one warmer layer for after dark. If you plan to explore Los Volcanes Natural Park or walk to the Matagorda viewpoint, sturdy shoes are useful in any month.

What to pack for Puerto del Carmen in October

  • Light clothes, a hat and high-factor sun cream: October highs average 28°C.
