If you only plan one big day out, make it Siam Park, the water park around half a mile from the centre of the resort. Aqualand Costa Adeje, a little over a mile away, is the second water park on this coast and makes a good alternative or a second visit for families who cannot get enough of the slides.
For something quieter, the Reserva Natural Especial del Malpaís de la Rasca is a protected stretch of coast about 4 miles away, with Punta Rasca Lighthouse at its tip roughly 5 miles from town. Golfers have Golf Las Américas on the doorstep, and the beaches, from Playa de las Vistas to Playa del Duque, fill the gaps between bigger outings. That mix of water parks, beaches and wild coastline is what makes the list of attractions in Playa de las Américas longer than its size suggests.
What to see, area by area
In and right around the resort, Siam Park, Golf Las Américas and the Loros del Sur parrot zoo are all within about half a mile, and Playa Los Callados is under 2 miles away. This is the part of the coast where tenerife nightlife playa de las americas visitors tend to stay, so the daytime sights are easy to fit around late evenings.
Head towards Los Cristianos, just over a mile away, and you reach Playa de las Vistas, Playa de Los Cristianos and Honda Beach, all around 1.2 miles from the resort. The ferry port at Los Cristianos is also here. The other way, the Costa Adeje coast runs past Aqualand Costa Adeje and on to Playa del Duque, about 2 miles off.
Further afield, the places to visit in Playa de las Américas extend into the countryside: Monkey Park, a small zoo about 2.5 miles away, and then the Rasca area, with Castillo de La Rasca at about 3 miles, the Malpaís de la Rasca reserve, Punta Rasca Lighthouse and the beach at La Arenita, all around 4 to 5 miles out.
Days out that suit children
Families are well served here. Siam Park and Aqualand Costa Adeje are the obvious water-park days, both within a short ride of the resort, and Loros del Sur and Monkey Park offer animal encounters that work well for younger children or as a half-day break from the pool.
The town beaches are the easy everyday option: Playa de las Vistas, Playa de Los Cristianos and Playa del Duque are all within about 2 miles. The Malpaís de la Rasca reserve and Punta Rasca Lighthouse suit older children happy to walk on rough volcanic ground; bring water and sun protection, as summer highs reach 26 to 28°C.
Booking tours, tickets and transport
Tours and tickets for the area can be compared here, which is worth doing ahead of school holidays, when demand for water parks and organised trips rises. Car hire, also bookable from this page, makes the Rasca reserve, the lighthouse and La Arenita much simpler to reach than relying on taxis.
Most British travellers come on a package, with flight, hotel and transfer bundled together. Tenerife South has direct flights from the UK and sits just 14 minutes from the resort; Tenerife North is 53 minutes away and has no direct UK service in our data. You can compare package deals from several providers on this page, then add tickets once your dates are fixed. The weather is reliable from January to December except February, which tends to be a touch cooler and wetter.
