Menorca Spain weather: a month by month holiday guide

Island · Balearic Islands · Spain

Menorca Spain weather follows a clear Mediterranean rhythm, and the figures recorded at Maó, on the island's east coast, tell the story well. July is the hottest and driest month, with average highs of 30°C and typically a single wet day, while January and February settle at around 15°C by day and 10°C at night. Summer stretches comfortably from June into October, which makes the island an easy choice for a sunny week from the UK. Winter is mild rather than cold, so spring and late autumn suit walkers and sightseers. Below you will find what each month brings, what to pack, and how to read the numbers for the different corners of the island.

What the climate is like

The Menorca weather pattern is one of long, warm summers and soft, damp winters. From June to September daytime highs sit between 26°C and 30°C, with nights rarely falling below 20°C, and the island's best months, June through October, line up neatly with the British summer holidays and the autumn half-term.

Rain is spread fairly evenly across the year, usually five to nine days a month, but the amounts are modest. February is the wettest month at around 60mm, while July sees barely 3mm. Late summer and early autumn bring the occasional heavier downpour, with August at 46mm and September at 54mm, though each still averages only six wet days.

The climate table does not include sea temperatures, so it is worth checking a live source before you go if swimming is the priority. The live forecast shown above this guide is the place to look for the Menorca weather today and the coming week.

Month by month through the year

January and February are the coolest months, with highs of 15°C and lows of 10°C; January has the most wet days at nine, February the most rain. March warms to 17°C and is surprisingly dry at 17mm, while April reaches 19°C. The Menorca May weather is a real step up: the Menorca temperature in May averages 21°C by day and 16°C at night, although May shares January's tally of nine wet days, so pack for a shower or two.

June brings proper summer at 26°C with just 18mm of rain. July peaks at 30°C with lows of 23°C and one wet day, and August is almost as hot at 29°C, with the odd storm adding up to 46mm. The Menorca September weather stays warm, the Menorca temperature in September averaging 26°C by day and 21°C at night, though it is statistically the wettest summer month at 54mm across six days.

The Menorca October weather is the reason many British travellers book late. The Menorca temperature in October holds at 24°C by day and 19°C after dark, with 30mm of rain over six days, ideal for exploring coves such as Cala Mitjana. November eases to 20°C, and December, at 16°C with only five wet days, is the driest month of the cooler half of the year.

What to pack by season

For June to September, think light cotton, swimwear, a sun hat and high-factor sun cream, since the July and August highs near 30°C are paired with warm nights around 23°C. Sturdy sandals or trainers help on the paths down to the coves, and a light layer is useful for evenings by the harbour in Mahón or Ciutadella.

In May and October, add a light jumper and a thin waterproof: days in the low to mid 20s are perfect for walking in S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park or climbing to the Castle of Santa Àgueda, but there are six to nine wet days a month.

From November to April, pack as you would for a mild British spring. Highs of 15°C to 20°C call for layers, a proper rain jacket and walking shoes, particularly for the archaeological sites around Alaior and Ferreries, where you will be outdoors for much of the day.

Coast and inland differences

All the figures on this page come from the weather station at Maó, a coastal town on the east of the island. They give a reliable picture for nearby Sant Lluís and the airport, but they are not separate readings for the west coast resorts such as Cala'n Bosch or for inland towns like Alaior, Mercadal and Ferreries.

Treat the Maó table as a guide for the whole island rather than an exact match everywhere. For short-term planning, a Menorca weather forecast for your specific resort, including the Menorca 14 day weather forecast shown above, will be more precise than averages. If you are used to checking BBC weather Menorca pages, the live forecast here covers the same need while you compare package deals, hotel prices, tours and car hire on the same page.
