Lloret de Mar Holidays: Beaches, Resorts and When to Go
Resort · Costa Brava · Spain
Lloret de Mar holidays come down to a simple pleasure: a Costa Brava town where the main beach, Platja de Lloret, starts right in the centre and a string of coves runs along the coast on either side. Girona airport is only 21 minutes away by road, so you can be on the sand not long after landing. July and August are the warmest, driest months, with highs of 29°C, and neighbouring Blanes, about 3 miles down the coast, adds more beaches and a hilltop castle. This page explains how a package works for this stretch of coast and lets you compare live deals in one place.

Who this resort suits
Holidays in Lloret de Mar suit travellers who want the beach to be the centre of the day. The town beach is on your doorstep, and within around 2 miles you have a choice of smaller coves such as Cala Banys, Cala d'en Trons, Platja de sa Boadella, Platja de Santa Cristina and Platja de Canyelles, so you can change scenery without hiring a car.
For Lloret de Mar family holidays, the short airport transfer is a real advantage: 21 minutes from Girona means less time in a coach with tired children. Couples and anyone after a gentler pace can spend days hopping between the coves or heading up to Castell de Sant Joan de Lloret, the old castle about half a mile from the centre. The town is home to around 37,000 people, so it has a lived-in feel beyond the seafront.
Lloret or neighbouring Blanes
Lloret de Mar itself is the obvious base. Platja de Lloret runs along the centre, the Museo del Mar is right in town for a rainy afternoon, and Platja de Fenals lies just to one side. A little further out, the coves of Santa Cristina and Canyelles are about 2 miles away.
Blanes, roughly 3 miles south-west and slightly larger at around 40,000 residents, makes a good alternative or a day out. It has Castell de Sant Joan on the hill above town, the Castell palau dels Vescomtes de Cabrera, the long town beach of Platja de la Badia de Blanes and Platja de s'Abanell, plus smaller coves such as Cala Forcanera, Cala de Sant Francesc and Treumal on the stretch towards Lloret. From Girona, Blanes is a 23-minute drive, almost the same as Lloret.

Which months to book
July and August are the peak months. Both reach highs of 29°C with nights around 21°C, and July is notably dry, with about 17mm of rain over three days. August is just as warm but sees more showers, around seven rain days.
June and September are good shoulder choices at 25°C, though September is wetter, with about ten rain days. May reaches 21°C and October 23°C, pleasant for walking between coves rather than all-day sunbathing. Short breaks to Lloret de Mar out of season, from November to March, bring highs of 14 to 18°C. Expect package prices to rise during UK school holidays, especially in late July and August, so booking early for those weeks is sensible.
Getting there from the UK
Two airports have direct flights from the United Kingdom. Girona is the closest by far, about 21 minutes by road to Lloret de Mar and 23 minutes to Blanes. Barcelona is the larger gateway, roughly 69 minutes to Lloret and 64 minutes to Blanes, so it can make sense if it offers better flight times from your local UK airport.
The short Girona transfer makes weekend breaks to Lloret de Mar realistic, since you lose very little of a two- or three-night stay to travel. Barcelona's ferry port is about 38 miles away if you are combining the coast with a wider trip.
Booking your package
Lloret de Mar package holidays bundle your flight, hotel and airport transfer into a single booking, and when sold as a package they are ATOL-protected, so you are covered if something goes wrong with the trip. In practice that means a coach or private transfer from Girona or Barcelona to your hotel, and a choice of board basis, from room only to half board or all inclusive, depending on the deal.
On this page you can compare live deals from Jet2holidays, TUI, loveholidays and On the Beach side by side, check hotel prices if you prefer to book separately, compare car hire for exploring Blanes and the coves, and see tours and tickets for the area.
