Benalmadena hotel Triton and where else to stay nearby

Resort · Costa del Sol · Spain

Plenty of British travellers start their search with the Benalmadena hotel Triton, but it pays to understand the resort around any hotel before you book. Benalmádena sits on the Costa del Sol only 10 minutes by road from Málaga airport, which has direct flights from the United Kingdom. Its neighbour Arroyo de la Miel is about 2 miles away, and Mijas around 4 miles. Between them you have sandy beaches such as Playa Malibu Palace and Playa de Carvajal, family days out at Sea Life and Selwo Marina, and a summer that reaches 31°C in July and August. This page sets out which area suits you, what kind of stay each one lends itself to, and how to time the booking.

Which part of the resort suits you

Benalmádena itself, a town of nearly 59,000 people, is the natural base if the beach is the point of the trip. Playa Malibu Palace lies about a mile away and Playa de Carvajal, which Benalmádena shares with Fuengirola, around 2 miles. The town also has its own museum and, barely half a mile out, the Castillo Monumento Colomares, with the caves of Cueva de la Zorrera and Cueva de los Botijos close by.

Arroyo de la Miel, roughly 2 miles away and home to under 18,000 people, is where the family attractions cluster: Sea Life Benalmádena, Selwo Marina and the Castillo de Bil Bil. Playa de Malapesquera, Playa Saltillo and the Playas Benalmadena stretch are all within easy reach, and at 8 minutes it is the closest of the three to Málaga airport.

Mijas, about 4 miles away, is the largest of the three with over 80,000 residents and the strongest sense of history: its bullring, the Castillo de Mijas, the Mijas Ethnological Historical Museum and the Museo de Miniaturas. It is 13 minutes from Málaga airport, and also the nearer option if you fly into Gibraltar, at 71 minutes against 75 for Benalmádena.

What kind of stay to expect

All three areas are coastal, so the choice is less about whether you can reach the sea and more about what you want on your doorstep. In Benalmádena the pull is beachside living, and searches here lean heavily towards all inclusive hotels and places right on the beach, which tells you how many British families and couples use it as a sun-and-sea base.

Arroyo de la Miel suits travellers who want attractions within walking or short taxi distance, which makes it a practical pick for families with children who will not sit on a sunlounger all fortnight. Mijas, with its castle, bullring and museums, appeals to those who prefer an older town atmosphere to come back to after a day by the water. Use the hotel prices shown on this page to filter by board basis and location and see what each area currently offers.

When and how to book

Most British travellers book Benalmádena as a package: flight, hotel and transfer together. With Málaga airport 10 minutes away, the transfer is one of the shortest on the coast, so you lose very little of your first or last day. You can compare packages from Jet2holidays, TUI, loveholidays and On the Beach here, alongside standalone hotel prices and car hire if you would rather drive.

The best months run from April to September. April and May are mild at 21 to 23°C and dry, while July and August are the hottest and busiest, and school-holiday weeks are always in higher demand. October is the wettest month, with around 117 mm of rain over 10 days, so check the forecast if you are chasing late sun. Winter still reaches 16 to 17°C by day, which suits a quieter break.
