Sagunto is a coastal town of around 66,000 people in the Província de València, set just 43 metres above sea level and only 16 miles from the city of Valencia. Its appeal for a British holiday starts with history you can walk to: the Roman Theatre of Saguntum and Sagunto Castle, the fortress overlooking the town, both lie about three-quarters of a mile from the centre, with the Museu Històric de Sagunt close by. Valencia Airport, with direct flights from the United Kingdom, is roughly 25 minutes' drive away, and summers run warm, with highs of 30°C to 31°C in July and August. It works as a base in its own right or as a cultural day out from the Valencia coast.

  • Sagunto Castle, the fortress overlooking the town, pairs naturally with the theatre on the same walk.
  • Valencia Airport has direct UK flights and lies only around 25 minutes' drive away.

Where to stay in Sagunto

Choosing Your Base in Sagunto

Sagunto is a coastal town, but its main sights cluster within about three-quarters of a mile of the centre, so staying near the old town puts the Roman theatre, the castle and the museum within easy reach on foot. Those who would rather wake up by the sea can base themselves on the coastal side and travel in for the history.

With a population of around 66,000, this is a working town rather than a purpose-built resort, which tends to suit travellers who prefer everyday Spanish life to a holiday strip. Live hotel prices are shown on this page so you can compare options across both areas.

Hire a car

The easiest way to reach Sagunto and the villages around it is a hire car from Valencia (VLC), about 25 min away.
