Cullera is a coastal town of around 24,000 people in the Província de València, close enough to Valencia that you can land and be in town within about 40 minutes. Its centre holds Cullera Castle, a listed cultural property barely 100 metres from the middle of town. Within a couple of miles you find Playa Medio, Playa Olivos and the Faro de Cullera lighthouse. Inland sits the Abric de Lambert, a rock shelter with prehistoric art. Summers are hot and dry, with August highs around 31°C and barely two rainy days. Spring and early summer are kinder, while September and October bring the heaviest rain of the year. It suits a beach fortnight with some history alongside.

Castle, Lighthouse, Rock Art and Beaches

Start with Cullera Castle, a listed cultural property right in the centre, about 100 metres from the middle of town. It is the obvious first stop and the town's best-known sight. Further out, the Faro de Cullera lighthouse sits around 2 miles from the centre, a good walk or short drive for coastal views and a quieter hour, particularly for couples.

For something older, the Abric de Lambert lies just under a mile away. This rock shelter holds prehistoric rock art and makes an easy outing with children. Then there are the beaches: Playa Medio at around 1.5 miles and Playa Olivos at roughly 1.8 miles, both well suited to families.

Where to stay in Cullera

Old Centre or Beachfront Base

Cullera divides neatly into two choices. Staying near the centre puts you within a few minutes' walk of the castle and the everyday life of a working town of around 24,000 people. The beaches lie between 1.5 and 2 miles away, so plan on a short drive, bus or bike ride to the sand.

If the sea is the priority, look along the coast towards Playa Medio, Playa Olivos and the lighthouse. Here you wake up closer to the water, though further from the castle. Live hotel prices for both areas are shown on this page so you can compare as you plan.

Hire a car

The easiest way to reach Cullera and the villages around it is a hire car from Valencia (VLC), about 36 min away.

Practical Points Before You Go

Hire a car or plan your transport for the beaches. The castle is central, but Playa Medio, Playa Olivos and the lighthouse are between 1.5 and 2 miles out, which is a hot walk in August.

If you travel in September or October, pack for rain. These are the wettest months by a clear margin, so keep a flexible plan with indoor alternatives such as a day in Valencia.

With Valencia Airport only around 36 minutes away, short breaks work well here. A long weekend is entirely realistic from the UK.
