What the climate is like

The short answer for anyone checking the weather in Los Gigantes, Tenerife is that it is mild all year and warm for most of it. Daytime highs run from 20°C in February to 28°C in August. Nights rarely feel cold: the lowest monthly average is 13°C in February, and summer nights hold at 20 to 22°C.

Rain is the exception, not the rule. Most months see between two and four wet days. July records none, and August just one. The wettest stretch is late winter. February has six rainy days, and March brings the highest total at 39mm over five days. Even then, the rain tends to come in short bursts, not set-in spells.

The climate data names every month except February among the best months to visit. February counts as the shoulder month: still mild, but the coolest and wettest point of the year.

Month by month through the year

January brings highs of 21°C and lows of 14°C, with only 9mm of rain over about four days. February is the low point, at 20°C by day, 13°C at night and six wet days. March warms to 22°C but has the most rain of the year, 39mm, so pack for the odd shower. April and May are reliably dry, with two wet days each and highs of 22 to 23°C. Spring is a comfortable season for walking up to the Mirador de Archipenque viewpoint, less than a mile from the resort.

Summer builds steadily. June reaches 24°C. Its 30mm of rain falls over just two days, so expect a brief downpour, not a damp month. July (26°C, no rain) and August (28°C, lows of 22°C) are the hottest and driest months. They are ideal for long days on Playa Los Gigantes, and they are also when UK school-holiday demand pushes up package prices.

Autumn stays warm. September sits at 25°C. October climbs back to 26°C with lows of 20°C, making it one of the best-value warm months for a half-term break. November holds 24°C with three wet days, and December eases to 21°C. That makes it a popular choice for winter sun over Christmas. Whatever the month, you can compare package deals from several UK providers on this page.

What to pack by season

From June to October, think summer clothing: light cotton, swimwear, a hat and high-factor sun cream. Highs reach 24 to 28°C and nights stay at 18 to 22°C. A thin layer for the evening is the most you are likely to need. Good sandals or trainers help on the steeper streets and on the walk up to the viewpoint.

From November to May, pack for warm days and cooler evenings. Highs of 20 to 24°C still mean T-shirts by day. Lows of 13 to 16°C call for a jumper or light jacket after dark, particularly in February. A compact umbrella or waterproof is worth taking in February and March, the two wettest months.

If you plan to hire a car and explore beyond the coast, a spare layer is sensible in any season. You can compare car hire here alongside your package.

What to pack for Los Gigantes in October

  • T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 26°C by day and 20°C at night.
