Granada Spain Weather: Month by Month Climate Guide

City · Spain

Granada Spain weather is a story of strong seasons. This inland Andalusian city sees afternoon highs of 35°C in July and August, yet January nights fall to around 3°C, so the month you choose shapes the whole trip. Rain is concentrated between autumn and spring, with March the wettest month at 115 mm over roughly 12 days, while July manages just 4 mm. The sweet spots are May, June, September and October, when the Alhambra and the Generalife are comfortable to explore on foot. Granada airport, with direct flights from the UK, sits about 13 minutes from the city, so even a short break works well in the right season.

How the year unfolds

The Granada climate swings further than British travellers might expect from southern Spain. Summers are hot and very dry: June averages 30°C, and July and August both peak at 35°C with lows of 21°C and only two or three wet days a month. Winters are cool rather than mild, with daytime highs of 13°C to 15°C from December to February and nights between 3°C and 5°C.

Rain falls mainly from October to April. March stands out as the wettest month, and November is the next wettest at 71 mm over about eight days. The best months, May, June, September and October, combine warmth with few rainy days, while March, April and November are the shoulder months: cooler, a little less predictable, but pleasant for sightseeing.

Granada is an inland city, so there is no sea temperature to plan around here. The live forecast at the top of this page shows what is coming up, and you can compare package deals, hotel prices, tours and car hire further down.

Month by month in Granada

Granada weather in January is the coolest of the year, with highs of 13°C, lows of 3°C and about seven wet days. February warms slightly to 15°C with a similar number of rainy days. Granada weather in March brings 17°C afternoons but also the heaviest rainfall, around 115 mm across 12 days, so pack for showers. Granada weather in April improves to 20°C with nine wet days, and May reaches 25°C with just six.

June climbs to 30°C and turns properly dry, and July and August are the hottest months at 35°C, when the temperature in Granada, Spain rarely gives much relief until late evening. September eases back to 29°C with only four wet days, one of the most comfortable months of the year. Granada weather in October is another favourite, at 24°C with lows of 13°C and around seven rainy days.

Granada weather in November cools sharply to 17°C with eight wet days and 71 mm of rain, and Granada weather in December settles at 15°C by day and 5°C at night, with seven days of rain on average. Winter visits suit the cathedral, the Royal Chapel and the Archaeological Museum on cooler days.

What to pack each season

From June to August, think shade and hydration: light, breathable clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, sun cream and a refillable water bottle, as the walk up to the Alhambra, about a mile and a quarter from the centre, is far easier in the morning than at 35°C midday. Evenings stay warm, with lows around 21°C in high summer.

In spring and autumn, bring layers. Days of 20°C to 25°C can follow nights of 8°C to 13°C, and March and April are rainy enough to justify a compact umbrella and shoes that cope with wet cobbles. Between November and February, a warm jacket, jumper and scarf are sensible, since nights drop to between 3°C and 7°C even when the afternoon feels mild.

What to pack for Granada in October

  • T-shirts by day and a light layer for the evening: October averages 24°C by day and 13°C at night.
