Sitges Holidays: Beaches, Museums and Getting There
Província de Barcelona · Catalonia · Spain · 27,668 residents · on the coast
Sitges is a coastal town of around 27,700 people in the Província de Barcelona, set just 18 metres above sea level on the Catalan shore. What sets it apart is how closely culture and beach sit together. The Maricel Museum and Palau Maricel stand right in the centre, the Cau Ferrat Museum and the Fundació Stämpfli are a few steps away, and Platja de Sant Sebastià is just off the old streets. A string of smaller beaches runs within about a mile and a half of town. Barcelona airport, with direct flights from the United Kingdom, is roughly 14 miles away, so a long weekend is as realistic as a full summer holiday.

Museums, Beaches and Coastal Caves
Culture is concentrated in the centre of Sitges. The Cau Ferrat Museum, a listed cultural property, is the best-known address in town and lies on the doorstep of the old quarter, alongside the Maricel Museum and the Palau Maricel. The Fundació Stämpfli is just as close, and the Can Llopis Romanticism Museum is about a quarter of a mile away, so the whole circuit is easily done on foot.
The beaches start in town with Platja de Sant Sebastià, then continue along the shore: La Caleta at just under a mile, Platja de la Barra at about 1.1 miles, Platja de Terramar at around 1.3 miles, and Platja del Cellerot and Cala Forn at roughly 1.6 miles. Cala Morisca, a small cove, lies about 3 miles out. For something wilder, the Cova del Gegant, an archaeological cave site, is around 2.1 miles away, and the protected Costes del Garraf coastline begins about 4.7 miles from town.

Old Town or the Beach Strip
Staying in the centre puts you within walking distance of the Maricel Museum, the Cau Ferrat Museum and Platja de Sant Sebastià. This is the liveliest part of a fairly small town, which makes it the natural choice if you would rather leave the car at the hotel.
If you prefer quieter evenings and more room on the sand, look along the coast towards La Caleta, Platja de la Barra and Platja de Terramar, which run out to just over a mile from the centre. The page shows live hotel prices, so you can compare the town centre with the beachfront before booking.
