Things to do in Caleta de Fuste: castle, beach and sunshine

Resort · Canary Islands · Fuerteventura · Spain

Caleta de Fuste is a compact resort on Fuerteventura, and the things to do in Caleta de Fuste are refreshingly easy to reach. Its two best-known landmarks, the Castillo de Fuste and the beach at Playa de Furste, are each about 1 km, or just over half a mile, away. Add a climate that rarely sees rain and daytime highs between 21°C and 28°C across the year, and you have a place built for slow days by the sea with a little history on the side. Below, I set out what is worth your time, what suits children, and how to book tours and tickets from this page.

What is worth seeing

The Castillo de Fuste is the resort's signature sight and the one that gives the place one of its local names, Castillo Caleta de Fuste. It is recorded as a cultural property of Antigua, and at around half a mile from the centre of the resort it makes an easy stroll rather than an excursion.

The other draw is Playa de Furste, the beach that sits a similar distance away. Between the two you have the essence of a Caleta de Fuste holiday: a sandy day by the water and a short walk to a piece of the island's heritage.

Around the castle and beach

Because both sights lie within roughly a mile of each other, Caleta de Fuste does not really divide into separate areas for sightseeing. You can visit the castle in the morning, settle on Playa de Furste by lunchtime and never need a car.

If you want to see more of Fuerteventura beyond the resort, car hire can be compared on this page, which gives you the freedom to plan your own days out across the island.

Days out with children

For families, the short distances are the real advantage. Little legs can manage the walk to Playa de Furste, and the castle is close enough to fit in without a long trek or a tired-out afternoon.

The weather helps too. Even in the warmest months, August highs sit around 28°C with overnight lows near 22°C, while winter days are closer to 22°C, which makes the beach comfortable for younger children for much of the year.

Booking tours and tickets

This page shows live options for tours and tickets, so you can compare what is available for your dates in one place, alongside hotel prices and car hire. Most British travellers come on a package holiday combining flight, hotel and transfers, and you can compare deals from several package providers here too.

There is no bad month to visit on weather alone. February is the wettest, with around 15 mm of rain spread over six days, while July is the driest. Remember that school-holiday weeks tend to be busier and dearer, so booking early is sensible if you are tied to term dates. Note that these climate figures come from the station at Corralejo, elsewhere on the island.
