Where to stay in Zumaia

Choosing a Base in Zumaia

Zumaia is small, so nowhere is far from anything. Staying near the historic core puts you within a quarter-mile or so of Olazabal etxea, Casa Zumaya, Foronda jauregia and Ubillos Palace, with Zuloaga's House-Museum just beyond. Those who would rather wake up near the sea can look towards the lighthouse and Inpernupe side, or out towards Algorri and the Ría del Urola for a quieter, more natural setting.

With a population of under 9,000, the town feels relaxed rather than lively; for busier evenings, Zarautz and San Sebastián are close by. The page shows live hotel prices so you can compare options for your dates.

Practical Tips for Your Visit

Most of Zumaia's sights sit within a mile of the centre, so once you have arrived you can leave the car and walk between the lighthouse, the palaces, the museum and the closer beaches. A hire car comes into its own for day trips to San Sebastián, Getaria and the inland towns.

The Ría del Urola is a protected area, so stick to marked paths and respect any local restrictions when exploring the estuary. As this is a small town of under 9,000 residents, expect a gentle pace rather than late-night crowds, and check the forecast before planning beach days.
